Ashley Rebello Reveals How Pooja Bedi’s Iconic Scene in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar Was Filmed
Pooja Bedi's Flying Skirt Scene: The flying skirt scene in the Aamir Khan-starrer 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar' became very famous. But do you know how Pooja Bedi shot this scene? Here's what the costume designer revealed...
While Aamir Khan's film "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" released in 1992 was a commercial success, it was also a critical success. But the most talked-about scene was when actress Pooja Bedi re-created Marilyn Monroe's famous flying skirt scene. Recently, the top stylist Ashley Rebello, who designed the costumes for the film, spoke about the thought process that went into the making of that glamorous scene.
Speaking to "Beyond the Frame" host Avinash Tripathi, Ashley revealed that "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" was his first project in Bollywood. Before entering the film industry, he used to sell hand-painted T-shirts.
He explained, "One day, I went to Mansoor Khan's office to deliver some T-shirts, and his secretary asked me to come in and meet him. I thought, 'I've never met him, why would he want to meet me?' I went in.
They thought I was auditioning for "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar." But I told them I was there to deliver the T-shirts. Then they asked if I had made the T-shirts myself, and I said yes. They loved my T-shirts and my style. They asked me to design costumes for the film. It was a very sudden start for me in the industry."
Ashley also spoke about the scene that recreated Marilyn Monroe's iconic moment, saying, "Mansoor wanted to recreate the scene where Marilyn Monroe's skirt flew. We tried blowing the skirt with a blower, but it wouldn't fly.

I remade the dress from a lightweight fabric, but it still wouldn't fly. Then we ordered a large fan, which is used to create dust storms on set, but the wind was so strong that I told them to quickly take the shot so that they could cut the part when the wind was blowing very hard.
It was shot so quickly, and when the film was released, it became a memorable scene." Regarding Pooja Bedi, Ashley said that Pooja Bedi was bold and had a very progressive mindset even at that time, and she focused only on her work.
