Emergency Anniversary: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut Honors Democratic Resistance During 1975 Emergency

The Emergency in India commenced on June 25, 1975, which is a day marked by darkness in the history of the country. For that reason, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) refers to June 25 as "Constitution Murder Day." On such a day today, in order to commemorate it, actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut honored it and discussed the Emergency Period.

Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram to highlight the significance of retaining constitutional values and reflecting on the issues that people had in mind during the most controversial period in India's political history. The actress honored the Emergency Period as "murder of democracy" and published an exclusive behind-the-scenes video clip from her movie "Emergency." She noted, "Today, we pay homage to all those who stood strong with democratic values in the Emergency period-the darkest period in India's history."

The Emergency was a direct attack on our Constitution. Civil liberties were suspended, freedom of expression was curtailed, leaders, journalists, and social activists were arrested, and attacks were launched against the very institutions that form the foundation of our democracy. I directed, acted in, and produced a film on this subject. It was a magnificent experience as a filmmaker."

Along with this, Kangana shared a clip from the film 'Emergency', featuring actors like Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, and Shreyas Talpade praising her direction.

Directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut, and starring her in the lead role, 'Emergency' was released in theaters on January 17 last year. However, the film failed to make a significant impact at the box office and was a flop. In the film, Kangana Ranaut played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
