Farhan Akhtar's '120 Bahadur' is all geared up for release. Some paid previews of the film were held today. However, the film is slated for release on 21st November. This war drama narrates the story of 120 brave Indian soldiers who battled it out against the Chinese at Rezang La in Ladakh during the India-China War in 1962. It is the story of those brave Indian soldiers who not only faced more than 5,000 Chinese soldiers bravely but also risked their lives to fight them on equal terms. Today marks the 63rd anniversary of the Battle of Rezang La.
Starring Farhan Akhtar and Rashi Khanna, "120 Bahadur" depicts the valor of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati and his unit, who bravely faced over 5,000 Chinese soldiers. The incident took place on November 18, 1962, when Indian soldiers of the 13th Kumaon Regiment, led by Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, held their ground despite overwhelming odds, cold, and limited resources, risking their lives and forcing the Chinese army to retreat. These soldiers faced Chinese machine guns with zeal and determination. They were out of ammunition, yet each one killed ten Chinese soldiers. India claimed 1,300 Chinese soldiers were killed, while China claimed 500, the highest Chinese casualties of the 1962 war.
Shaitan Singh was from Rajasthan, and most of the regiment he served with were from Rajasthan and Haryana, and had no experience fighting in snow. Most of the soldiers in this regiment belonged to the Ahir caste, better known today as Yadavs. Of the 120 soldiers in the regiment, 114 were martyred in this battle.
