After 16 years, Shakira is once again poised to set a world record with her song. Shakira, who rocked the world with the 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem "Waka Waka," is back with the FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem, "Dai Dai." Fans have been eagerly awaiting the song since the teaser was released recently. Now, "Dai Dai," the official FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem, has been released. Shakira collaborated with Nigerian Afrobeats legend Burna Boy.
"Dai Dai," a nearly four-minute song, features elements of Afrobeats, dance-pop, world beats, and reggaeton, making it even more captivating. The lyrics perfectly capture the spirit of football and offer an inspiring message to players and fans.
The song also mentions football legends, including Maradona, Maldini, Romario, Cristiano Ronaldo, Beckham, Kaka, and Messi. Furthermore, the song features the names of this year's FIFA World Cup participants, including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, and the Netherlands.
"Dai Dai" marks Shakira's second time composing an official FIFA anthem. Previously, she composed the iconic song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, which gained immense popularity.
In July 2010, "Waka Waka" peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs, Latin Airplay, and Latin Pop Airplay charts. It also peaked at number eight on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart and reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also spent 42 weeks at number one on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, making it Shaq's longest-charting single on that chart.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The final will be held on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which has been renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the Games. Shakira, Madonna, and BTS will also perform in the first halftime show of the FIFA final.
