Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan Reunite After 50 Years of Friendship for 'Thalaivar 173'

Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are coming together for a film. Today, Wednesday, Rajinikanth's next film, "Thalaivar 173," was announced. Kamal Haasan will also be seen in the film. This film, produced under the banner of Rajkamal Films International, will feature the performances of both superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Sundar C will direct the film. The film will be released in theaters on a grand scale during Pongal in 2027.

This film not only reunites two cinema legends, but also celebrates their five-decade friendship. The two superstars' friendship spans nearly 50 years. Furthermore, Rajkamal Films International has also completed 44 years. "Thalaivar 173" is being produced to mark this occasion. Fans of both stars are extremely excited.

Rajinikanth was last seen in "Coolie" this year. The film was released on August 14th, marking his 50th anniversary in cinema. The film starred Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and Aamir Khan. It grossed over ₹500 crore at the worldwide box office, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. Rajinikanth is currently shooting for the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster "Jailer." Directed by Nelson and titled 'Jailer 2', the film will see Rajinikanth reprising his role of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
