Aamir Khan Reveals A.R. Rahman’s Unique Music-Making Ritual at ‘Lagaan’ 25th Anniversary Screening

Lagaan by Aamir Khan celebrates its 25th birthday. As a part of this celebration, there will be a re-run of Lagaan. Recently, there was a special screening of Lagaan in which not only Aamir Khan, but also a number of actors who had acted in this movie, were present. Aamir Khan revealed some interesting habits of AR Rahman when he makes music.
According to Aamir Khan, AR Rahman keeps a burning candle beside himself, plays music on the keyboard, and turns on a tape recorder that captures all his thoughts for around two to three hours.
Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar, who was present, said he had discussed this with A.R. Rahman. He asked why he lit candles in the room. A.R. Rahman told Javed Akhtar, "Look at this room. Everything here is mechanical. There's one thing that isn't mechanical: the candlelight. It's soft. It's real."
The film "Lagaan" starred Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne, Suhani Mulayam, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rajendra Gupta, and Raghuveer Yadav. The film was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
Released in 2001, Aamir Khan's film "Lagaan" is listed among the best-grossing films in Indian history. According to Sakslink, the film had a budget of ₹25 crore (250 million rupees). It grossed ₹46.39 crore (580.5 million rupees) at the Indian box office. Worldwide, it grossed ₹580.5 million (580.5 million rupees).
