Awards-winning lyricist Alan Bergman, Oscar, Grammy and Emmy winner, collaborated with his wife Marilyn Keith for over six decades on songwriting. Together, they created such chart-toppers as 'The Windmills of Your Mind', 'The Way We Were', and 'In the Heat of the Night'.
Alan Bergman was born on September 11, 1925, in New York. Alan and Marilyn, the Bergman couple, wrote more than a hundred songs, most of which were for films and TV. They combined the traditional Great American Songbook era of Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin with the modern pop sensibility of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Alan Bergman's wife, Marilyn Keith, passed away in January 2022. She was the first female president and board chairman of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). It is a major society with the rights of music producers. Talking about Bergman, he won three Academy Awards. He was nominated for about 13 more Oscar awards, five of which were with his close friend Legrand.
