In the recent past, there was intense firing from Pakistan along with other areas near Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. 12 people lost their lives in the attack there. People had to flee to a safe location after homes, schools and a gurudwara were attacked there. Bollywood actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has condemned the attack on strong terms and has shared her reaction on social media.
Sharing a post on her Instagram, Fatima Sana Shaikh wrote, "Thinking of the people living near the Line of Control. 12 innocent people, including four children, have lost their lives in Pakistan firing in Poonch and surrounding areas. Homes and a gurudwara were targeted, and families are fleeing to save their lives. Targeting innocents is the most cowardly act. My prayers are for all those we lost, for the civilians who are facing this horrific situation and for the safety of the soldiers who are fighting bravely on the border."
On the night of 7 May 2025, the Pakistani Army started heavy firing in border areas like Poonch, Rajouri, Kupwara and Baramulla. The attack was in response to the Indian Army's 'Operation Sindoor', in which India targeted nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoK. The firing caused the most devastation in Poonch, where 12 civilians were killed and 57 people were injured. According to local residents, this is the first time since the 1971 Indo-Pak war that such intense firing has taken place in the interiors of Poonch city.
