Recently, he talked about 'burqa' and 'purdah,' for which he received heavy criticism from social media. Below are his words:
Imtiaz Ali, while talking in the podcast Unfiltered by Samdish during the promotion of his movie 'Main Wapas Aaunga,' said: "Whenever somebody says, 'I am comfortable wearing my burqa' or 'I am comfortable in purdah,' I don’t really like that very much. You should not be comfortable with that. It is a sign of a backward society."
Imtiaz Ali's statement spread like wildfire on social media. While many agreed with him, others opposed his views.
The Imtiaz Ali-directed film 'Main Wapas Aaunga' was released recently. Beyond the pain of the Partition, the film depicts a love story. Apart from Diljit, the film features Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari in pivotal roles. The movie is performing well at the box office; it earned ₹80 lakh on its eighth day of release, bringing its total collection so far to ₹12.25 crore.
