Shekhar Suman Gets Relief After 16 Years as Bombay High Court Quashes FIR Over Comedy Show Joke
Shekhar Suman: Actor Shekhar Suman has received relief from the court in a 16-year-old case. He has responded to this. Let's find out what he said.
Actor Shekhar Suman made headlines when the Bombay High Court quashed the FIR against him. Sixteen years ago, a case was filed against him and Bharti Singh over a joke on the TV show "Comedy Circus Ka Jadoo." The FIR was filed against Shekhar Suman and Bharti for using offensive words like "Ya Allah! Rasgulla! Dahi Bhalla!" After receiving relief from the court, Shekhar Suman has expressed his views on the matter.
Shekhar Suman has reacted to the court's decision. He expressed his views on receiving relief in this case after 16 years. In an interview with HT, he said, "I didn't even know about it. It was Bharti who inadvertently said something that had no religious connotation. I wasn't even a part of it, but I was unnecessarily dragged into this matter for publicity.
He further said, "I am very grateful to the honorable judge who dismissed this case. This was shocking to me. I had forgotten about it long ago. I was neither sent a notice nor called to present my side. Thank God. Just imagine how some people waste the court's precious time. They harass innocent citizens. Finally, justice has prevailed."
This case dates back to 2010, when a complaint was filed regarding allegedly offensive comments shown in a Sony TV program. Along with Suman and Singh, the channel and a scriptwriter were also named in the FIR. The complaint, filed by a representative of Raza Academy, alleged that Bharti had made a joke by quoting a verse from the Quran, which was later repeated by Suman during the episode.
