A video where New York's new Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, gave a victory speech is going viral on social media. In fact, the song "Dhoom Machale" played in the background after Mamdani's victory speech. Netizens reacted to this with funny comments, calling Mamdani a Bollywood fan. Now, Pritam, the composer of the song "Dhoom Machale," has responded.
According to news agency PTI, Zohran Mamdani chose to play the popular Bollywood song "Dhoom Machale" after his victory speech as the newly elected mayor of New York, leaving the song's composer, Pritam, thrilled. Pritam was already supportive of Mamdani. Now, his victory and the fact that it was celebrated with Pritam's song have only increased his joy.
Zohran Mamdani is the son of Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Columbia University professor Mahmood Mamdani. Mamdani, an Indian-American Democrat, defeated independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa on Tuesday night. Pritam said he woke up that morning after watching the viral video of Mamdani. Pritam explained that he met Mamdani's mother, producer Mira Nair, when she was working on a film called "The Bengali Detective."
Music composer Pritam told PTI, "I was very interested in the results because Zohran Mamdani is Mira Nair's son. I was hoping he would win, and as soon as I woke up, a friend from the US sent me a clip of his victory, with "Dhoom Machale" playing in the background, and it seemed like the perfect song for the occasion." This song is from the 2004 film "Dhoom." Pritam explained that this Yash Raj Films film has been remade in several Southeast Asian languages.
Pritam further said, "When the song 'Dhoom Machale' was released, it was a very popular song in the Southeast, and Prince Charles's ceremonial band played 'Dhoom Machale.' Bollywood songs have always been a huge soft power for our country. The way the world responds to Bollywood songs creates a connection, whether it's Central Asia, the US, the UK, Europe, or wherever you go."
