IT Dept Probes F&B Firms in Mumbai, Shilpa Shetty-Linked Restaurant Among Them
Shilpa Shetty: The Income Tax Department raided the offices of several food and beverage companies in Mumbai on Thursday, December 18, on charges of tax evasion. Actress Shilpa Shetty's restaurant was also raided by the Income Tax Department.
The Income Tax Department conducted a raid on Shilpa Shetty's restaurant in Mumbai yesterday. According to reports in PTI, government sources stated yesterday that the Income Tax Department has conducted raids on the main offices of a few companies in the food and beverage industry in Mumbai, and a company owned by actress Shilpa Shetty. According to Amar Ujala sources, the Income Tax Department has raided around 20-24 different locations in and around Mumbai ever since yesterday, as it had obtained concrete information about a few companies in this industry.
According to Amar Ujala sources, the search operations were conducted in the office of a restaurant owned by actress Shilpa Shetty and a couple of other places. The sources rejected claims that the I-T department had searched the Mumbai residence of the actress. Tax officials stated that the IT investigation has no connection to the FIR filed by the Maharashtra Police against Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra (on charges of fraud), nor to the case filed by the Bengaluru Police against a local restaurant for allegedly operating beyond legal working hours.
This Bengaluru restaurant is reportedly co-owned by Shilpa Shetty. The actress also owns the restaurant. Separately, Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra are also embroiled in a legal dispute over an alleged ₹60 crore fraud case. Recently, Raj Kundra shared a clarification on social media regarding this case. He categorically denied the allegations against him, stated that he has fully cooperated with the investigation, and is confident that justice will be served. Furthermore, Shilpa Shetty has broken her silence amid the ongoing investigation into the fraud case, stating that her name has been falsely implicated in the case. He said his role in the concerned company was limited and non-operational.
