Mansi Bagla Channels Classic Romance in ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’; Cites Karan Johar and YRF Films as Inspiration

The upcoming film Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is generating considerable buzz, not only for its promise of a "pure love story" but also as the launch vehicle for debutante Shanaya Kapoor, who will star alongside the acclaimed Vikrant Massey. At the heart of this anticipated musical romance is writer-producer Mansi Bagla, who openly draws inspiration from the grand romantic traditions of Karan Johar and Yash Raj Films, aiming to bring that classic sensibility to a contemporary audience.

Mansi Bagla's vision for the film is clear: to create an immersive romantic experience that feels both fresh and familiar. "When it came to Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, I was sure I wanted to make a pure love story," she stated. "Mini Films as a production house, wanted to bring a raw love story at a time when not many stories are seen or created for the big screen." This ambition is particularly noteworthy as it places a significant spotlight on its lead pair. For Shanaya Kapoor, it marks her entry into Bollywood, while for Vikrant Massey, it offers a chance to explore a lighthearted romantic space.

The decision to emulate the masters of Bollywood romance is a deliberate one. "I have been quite inspired by love stories made by Karan Johar and Yash Raj Films, and they have motivated me quite a lot to create my own path," Bagla revealed. She emphasizes, however, that this inspiration is a springboard for originality: "With originality in thoughts and craft, I am not simply making projects, but I am making films that have a pure touch."
