Actor Prosenjit Distances Himself from Politics Amid Election Speculation
Prosenjit Chatterjee: After the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were announced, why did Prosenjit Chatterjee say that he shouldn't be given a political spin? Find out the real reason behind it...
The results of the West Bengal Assembly have been declared lately. The ruling party in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress, lost the election, while the BJP secured a landslide victory. Rudranil Ghosh, a Bengali actor who contested from the Shibpur constituency under the BJP ticket, won. It was rumored that actor Prosenjit congratulated Rudranil on winning the election. As the rumors escalated, Prosenjit himself has now responded and revealed the truth.
As the rumors escalated, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee shared a post on his Facebook page regarding the entire matter. In this post, he completely refuted such rumors and urged people not to associate him with any political party.
In his post, the actor wrote, "I have treated everyone with utmost respect for many years and intend to do so in the future. I have a humble request to all of you: please do not politicize me in any way. I did not call anyone; my younger brother called me. As an elder brother, it is my duty to bless someone, and that is what I did. This has nothing to do with politics."
Recently awarded the Padma Shri, Prosenjit Chatterjee has not been active in politics nor has he contested elections in any constituency. In his career, he has worked in several Bengali films with Rudranil. In addition to Bengali films, Prosenjit has also appeared in several Hindi films and series. He was last seen in Rajkummar Rao's film "Maalik," released last year.
Speaking of the West Bengal elections, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress had been in power for the past 15 years. However, this time the tables turned, and the BJP defeated the TMC to a landslide victory. The BJP won 207 of the 294 assembly seats, while the TMC was reduced to just 80. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself lost her own seat. However, she refused to resign as Chief Minister, accusing the BJP of dishonesty.
