Karan Johar Questions Authenticity of Praise Amid Rising Paid PR in Bollywood

Karan Johar, the producer and director of the famous television show, Koffee with Karan, has just declared that a new season of this show is to commence soon. This comes after he addressed the issue of paid PR in the film industry. He urged people to end paid PR by allowing their work to speak for itself.

Recently, Karan Johar participated in a discussion on the film industry organized by "The Week." A contestant mentioned actresses like Janhvi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor engaging in "method marketing" for their recent films, "Param Sundari" and "Tu Ya Main." He asked if this PR trend could spread to Bollywood as well.

To this, Karan replied, "I think Bollywood should stop doing PR. It would be much better. They should let their achievements speak for themselves, because unfortunately, all PR these days is paid PR. So, if you want to say you look beautiful, you have to pay.

If you want to say you're the best actor on earth, you have to pay. I think we're overly active in PR. So, whether they're doing method marketing or not doesn't matter. They should stop marketing themselves and let their work speak for itself."

Karan also clarified that he wasn't targeting any particular artist, but rather a general trend. He added, "I'm not referring to the people you're talking about. I'm referring to everyone in general. PR and marketing are important categories of work and should be treated accordingly."

But now everything is available for a fee, and that can be incredibly frustrating. Because then, you can't judge what people like and what they don't. Now, you look at everything from the perspective of, 'Are people really liking this, or are they being paid to like it?'

On the work front, Karan Johar is currently preparing for his next directorial venture. His last film as a director was "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani," released in 2023. Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the film was a box office success. His production house's upcoming film is "Chand Mera Dil," starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday.
